Volcanic Awareness Training in Adeje: INVOLCAN’s “Canary Islands, A Volcanic Window in the Atlantic” (9-10 June 2026)

Residents of Adeje will have the opportunity to learn more about the volcanic nature of the Canary Islands during a series of free educational sessions organised by the Volcanological Institute of the Canary Islands (INVOLCAN).

The programme, titled “Canary Islands, A Volcanic Window in the Atlantic”, aims to improve public understanding of volcanic activity while promoting awareness, preparedness and risk reduction.

Free Public Sessions at Costa Adeje Tourism Development Centre

The training sessions will take place at the Costa Adeje Tourism Development Centre (CDTCA) on:

• Tuesday 9 June 2026

• Wednesday 10 June 2026

• Time: 6:00pm

• Admission: Free, subject to venue capacity

The initiative forms part of INVOLCAN’s annual educational programme, which is delivered across all 31 municipalities of Tenerife.

Understanding Volcanic Risk in the Canary Islands

The Canary Islands are one of Europe’s most active volcanic regions, making public awareness and education an important part of risk management.

Adeje’s Councillor for Security, Mercedes Vargas, highlighted the value of helping residents better understand the islands’ geological reality.

She noted that education and public awareness remain essential tools for safely coexisting with the volcanic environment that forms part of the Canary Islands’ identity.

Programme Schedule

The training is designed for a general audience and will be divided into two sessions.

Tuesday 9 June 2026

Volcanic Hazards and Risk Reduction

Topics will focus on:

• Understanding volcanic hazards

• Risk prevention strategies

• Public awareness and preparedness

Wednesday 10 June 2026

Volcanic Activity and Risk Management in the Canary Islands

Topics will include:

• The volcanic processes that shape the archipelago

• How volcanic risk is monitored and managed

• Current volcanic realities in the Canary Islands

At the end of each session, attendees will be invited to enjoy a complimentary cocktail reception.

The programme is co-funded by:
