Pedri’s Tenerife Retreat: The Vineyard Village That Shaped Barcelona’s Midfield Star

While Pedri dazzles fans at Barcelona and on the international stage, there’s one place that continues to keep him grounded: Tegueste, the small Tenerife town where his story began.

Home to around 11,500 residents, this peaceful municipality in the north of the island remains closely connected to the footballer, whose family still lives there today.

The Town That Raised a Football Star

Located between rolling vineyards and dramatic volcanic landscapes, Tegueste offers a very different pace of life from the spotlight of La Liga and European football.

Although Pedri now lives in Catalonia, he regularly returns to the town to spend time with family and reconnect with his roots.

The connection runs deep. Long before he became one of the world’s most admired midfielders, Pedri was a local boy dreaming of playing for Barcelona, a club that has always held a special place in his family. His father remains the president of the local Barcelona supporters’ club.

A Place Rich in History

Tegueste is one of only three municipalities in Tenerife without a coastline and has a history stretching back to the island’s Guanche past.

The town takes its name from the former Menceyato of Tegueste, one of the pre-Hispanic kingdoms that existed before the Spanish conquest of Tenerife.

Its historic centre was declared a Bien de Interés Cultural (Asset of Cultural Interest) in 1986 and preserves important elements of the island’s indigenous heritage.

One of the most significant archaeological sites is the Barranco de Agua de Dios, where numerous Guanche caves have been discovered. Among them is the famous Cueva de los Cabezazos, believed to have served as both a dwelling and burial site.

Vineyards, Tradition and Rural Charm

Despite its modest size, Tegueste offers plenty of character.

Visitors can explore:

• The 16th-century Church of Nuestra Señora del Socorro

• The Parish Church of San Marcos in the town centre

• Casa de los Zamorano, a traditional estate that reflects the area’s rural heritage

The municipality is also known for its wine-growing traditions, with vineyards forming an important part of the local landscape and economy.

Surrounded by Natural Beauty

Nature lovers are equally drawn to Tegueste.

Walking trails weave through vineyards and countryside before connecting with the Anaga Rural Park, a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve famous for its ancient laurel forests and dramatic scenery.

Nearby, the volcanic formation known as Mesa de Tejina offers spectacular views across the surrounding countryside and coastline.

The Place Pedri Still Calls Home

For all the success, trophies and global recognition, Tegueste remains Pedri’s emotional home.

Away from the pressure of elite football, the town provides the tranquillity, family connections and familiar surroundings that have helped shape one of Spain’s brightest footballing talents.

It’s a reminder that even the biggest stars often stay connected to the places that first inspired them.
