The five designs will compete to become the official image of Roma Eterna: El imperio del Carnaval, with the winner chosen by public vote and awarded €12,000
Santa Cruz de Tenerife has selected the five finalists competing to become the official poster and visual identity for the city’s Carnival 2027.
The selection follows the submission of 41 entries to the Organismo Autónomo de Fiestas y Actividades Recreativas (OAFAR), one of the strongest participation figures of recent editions.
The five finalists are Lucía Casanova, Felipe Gómez, Nareme Melián, Eduardo Puyol and Juliana Serrano.
Their designs will form the basis of the visual identity for next year’s Carnival, which will have the theme Roma Eterna: El imperio del Carnaval. The opening gala is scheduled for 22 January 2027.
Finalists receive €1,000 each
Each of the five selected artists will receive €1,000 and will have 30 calendar days to develop their proposal into a complete graphic identity suitable for the different formats and spaces used during the Carnival.
Once the designs have been developed, the public will have the final say.
The winning design will be selected through an online public vote and will receive a prize of €12,000.
Santa Cruz mayor José Manuel Bermúdez said the intention is to create a more consistent visual identity across the Carnival rather than simply selecting a standalone poster.
The city’s councillor for Fiestas, Javier Caraballero, described the €12,000 prize as recognition of the work of local artists and the opportunity to become part of the visual history of Santa Cruz Carnival.
Eight experts selected the finalists
The 41 submissions were assessed by a technical jury made up of professionals from the worlds of Carnival, design, journalism and art.
The panel included Humberto Gonar, Carnival journalist and chronicler; designer Santi Castro; artistic director Enrique Camacho; competition director Yeray Piñero; muralist and graffiti artist Erik Air; art historian Astrid González; graphic designer Adjomar González Pérez; and Fine Arts graduate and teacher Patricia Hodgson.
Javier Caraballero chaired the jury without voting rights, while María José Gómez Padilla, a technician from the Fiestas department, acted as secretary.
The next stage will see the five finalists develop their concepts before the public gets to decide which one will become the face of Santa Cruz Carnival 2027.
