San Juan Holiday Confirmed: 24 June Will Be a Public Holiday in These Tenerife Municipalities

The arrival of summer will bring an extra midweek break for residents in several parts of Spain, as Wednesday, 24 June, the feast day of San Juan, has officially been confirmed as a public holiday in a number of regions and municipalities.

While San Juan has religious roots, the celebration is also closely linked to ancient summer solstice traditions, with bonfires and community festivities remaining at the heart of the occasion.

Public Holiday Across Three Spanish Regions

According to the official calendar published in Spain’s Official State Gazette (BOE), Catalonia, the Valencian Community and Galicia have designated 24 June as a regional public holiday.

In these regions, celebrations are traditionally marked by the famous San Juan bonfires held on the evening of 23 June, where families and friends gather on beaches, streets and public squares to welcome the summer.

San Juan in Tenerife

The date is also observed as a local holiday in several Tenerife municipalities where San Juan Bautista is the patron saint.

This year, 24 June 2026 will be a local public holiday in:

📍 Garachico

📍 Guía de Isora

📍 Los Silos

📍 San Juan de la Rambla

Residents in these municipalities will enjoy a day off as part of their local festivities and celebrations.

Among them are:

• Las Palmas de Gran Canaria

• Albacete
