Mozart’s The Marriage of Figaro Opens Opera de Tenerife’s New Season

Some operas have never really gone out of fashion.

More than two centuries after its premiere, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s Le nozze di Figaro (The Marriage of Figaro) remains one of the world’s most performed comic operas, blending humour with sharp observations about power, class and relationships.

This October, it returns to the Auditorio de Tenerife to open Opera de Tenerife’s 2026-2027 season.

Four Performances in October

Audiences will have four opportunities to see the production in the Symphony Hall at the Auditorio de Tenerife.

Performances take place on:

  • Sunday 11 October at 6.00pm
  • Tuesday 13 October
  • Thursday 15 October
  • Saturday 17 October at 7.00pm

A Comedy with a Serious Side

Although The Marriage of Figaro is classed as an opera buffa, or comic opera, its story explores themes that remain surprisingly relevant.

Set in a household where servants and aristocrats live side by side, the plot follows Figaro, Susanna, The Countess and Count Almaviva as they navigate jealousy, abuse of power, hidden agendas and the struggle for personal freedom.

Behind the witty dialogue and mistaken identities lies a story about inequality, dignity and challenging those in authority.

Performed in Italian

The opera will be sung in its original Italian, with Spanish and English surtitles available throughout the performance, making it accessible to both local and international audiences.

A Classic Returns to Tenerife

Whether you’re a regular opera-goer or simply curious to experience one of Mozart’s greatest works, The Marriage of Figaro offers a lively mix of memorable music, comedy and timeless storytelling.

As the curtain rises on another Opera de Tenerife season, it’s hard to think of a more fitting way to begin than with one of the masterpieces of the operatic repertoire.
