La Laguna’s most beautiful street… and why it’s actually worth your time

La Laguna has a street they’re calling the most beautiful in Spain… and to be fair, it’s not a bad shout.

They’re talking about Calle San Agustín.

About 600 metres long, right in the old town, and lined with buildings that go back a few hundred years… not the usual “nice street” you see in tourist brochures.

This one’s got a bit more substance to it.

You’re basically walking through history

San Agustín sits right in the heart of La Laguna’s historic centre… the UNESCO bit.

And unlike a lot of places that have been overdone or modernised, this one still feels intact.

Stone streets, old layouts, buildings that haven’t been ripped apart and rebuilt every 20 years.

It’s one of those places where you actually notice what’s around you… not just rush through it.

Proper old-school architecture

As you walk along, you’ve got a mix of palaces, old family homes, internal courtyards… the kind of stuff that tells you this used to be where the important people lived.

Not surprisingly, a lot of it was owned by wealthy or influential families back in the day.

There’s even a link to Amaro Pargo… which, if you’ve been here a while, you’ll have heard that name more than once.

And places like Casa Montañés and Casa Lercaro… proper examples of how things were built back then, and somehow still standing.

Not just stuck in the past

What’s interesting is that a lot of these buildings aren’t just sitting there as museums.

They’ve been repurposed.

Old houses turned into hotels, offices, institutions… things like Teidagua are based in buildings that are a few hundred years old.

So it’s not frozen in time… it’s still being used.

Why it stands out

You’ve got plenty of nice streets across Spain… no shortage of those.

But this one works because it hasn’t lost its identity.

It still feels like La Laguna… not like somewhere that’s been polished up purely for tourists.

Worth a walk?

Yes… but not in a rush.

This isn’t a “tick it off and move on” kind of place.

Take your time, look around, maybe stop for a coffee nearby… and you’ll get a lot more out of it.

One thing to keep in mind

It’s easy to forget how much history is sitting right in front of you here.

Places like this aren’t trying to impress… they just quietly get on with it.

And that’s probably why they stand out.
