18 new “affordable” homes approved in El Sauzal… but don’t get too excited just yet
The Canary Islands Government has approved a project to build 18 protected public homes in El Sauzal.
On paper, it sounds like progress.
In reality… it’s one small step in a much bigger problem.
What’s actually been approved
This isn’t construction starting tomorrow.
What’s been approved is the execution project… basically the green light to move things forward.
The development will be on Calle San Nicolás, with a budget of just under €3.9 million including IGIC.
So yes, it’s happening… but it’s still early stages.
What they’re building
It’s not just the homes themselves.
The plans include all the usual infrastructure needed to make them properly liveable:
Electricity
Plumbing and sanitation
Fire safety systems
Telecommunications
Thermal installations
In other words… the basics you’d expect, but not always guaranteed to be done properly unless it’s clearly specified.
The bigger issue
Here’s the honest bit.
18 homes.
That’s the number.
In a place like Tenerife, where housing is becoming harder and harder to find, especially for locals… it’s not exactly a game changer.
It helps… of course it does.
But it’s a drop in the ocean compared to the demand.
Why it still matters
That said, these types of projects do need to happen.
You can’t fix a housing shortage overnight, and if nothing gets built, nothing improves.
So while 18 homes won’t solve the problem… it’s still movement in the right direction.
One thing to watch
The key now is whether this actually gets built without delays.
Approvals are one thing… finished homes people can move into are another.
And if you’ve been around Tenerife long enough, you’ll know those two don’t always line up.
