If you missed it this year, you’ll have to wait until November.
One of Tenerife’s best-known traditional guachinches, El Churrasco in La Corujera, Santa Úrsula, has closed its doors for the season after serving its final customers on 31 May.
Like many traditional guachinches, the closure follows a long-standing custom: once the house wine runs out, the season comes to an end.
A Favourite Among Meat Lovers
El Churrasco has built a loyal following thanks to its straightforward approach to Canarian dining, centred around grilled meats, local produce and homemade wine.
Among the most popular dishes are:
• Fresh local cheese
• House wine from the family’s own harvest
• Pork skewers cooked over charcoal
• The restaurant’s signature churrasco
The venue has become particularly popular with visitors looking for an authentic guachinche experience in the north of Tenerife.
The Dish That Gives the Guachinche Its Name
The star attraction is undoubtedly the churrasco.
Served alongside generous portions of chips, the grilled meat dish has become the restaurant’s trademark and one of the reasons diners continue to make the journey to La Corujera.
According to regular visitors, part of the ritual involves turning the meat before cutting into it, allowing the juices to settle and enhancing the flavour.
Many diners even recommend putting aside the knife and fork altogether and enjoying it in the most traditional way possible.
Wine That Keeps People Coming Back
As with any traditional guachinche, the wine plays a central role.
The house red wine, produced from the family’s own vineyards, is often highlighted by customers as one of the establishment’s strongest attractions and an essential part of the dining experience.
Reopening Planned for November
The closure is only temporary.
✓ Last day of the season: 31 May 2026
✓ Reopening expected: November 2026
✓ Reason for closure: End of the current wine harvest
The restaurant is expected to reopen when the new wine becomes available, continuing a tradition followed by many of Tenerife’s classic guachinches.
For now, fans of El Churrasco will need a little patience.
The grills may have cooled down, but they’ll be firing up again when the next vintage is ready.
