There are still proper guachinches in the north… and then there are ones that have evolved a bit.
Guachinche Octava Isla, up in La Matanza, sits somewhere in the middle.
Traditional base… but with a few twists that make it stand out.
Not Just About the Food
First thing you notice isn’t even the menu.
It’s the view.
Big windows, proper open feel, and on a clear day… views up towards Teide while you’re eating. Not a bad setup.
Familiar, But Not Boring
The menu sticks to Canarian classics, but plays around with them a bit.
You’ve still got things like:
- Escaldón
- Carne de fiesta
But then it shifts into things like:
- Banana and cheese croquettes
- Roquefort and guava croquettes
Which sounds odd… but works.
There’s also a solid mix of dishes like garbanzada, grilled octopus, batata montaditos… plenty to choose from without it feeling overcomplicated.
The One People Go For
If you can’t decide… they’ve made that easy.
The mar y tierra grill is the standout.
It’s built for sharing and comes loaded with:
- Squid
- Fried octopus
- Mussels
- Prawns
- Entrecote
- Chicken
Plus chips, papas arrugadas, and salad all piled in.
It’s not subtle… but that’s kind of the point.
Worth the Trip?
If you like the idea of a guachinche but want something slightly more comfortable… this is a good middle ground.
Good food, solid portions, and a view that does half the work for you.
