New Plan Aims to Kickstart Stalled Projects in Puerto de la Cruz

Puerto de la Cruz has been stuck in limbo for a while when it comes to big projects.

Now they’re trying to move things forward.

A Plan That Was Going Nowhere

The original improvement plan dates back to 2015.

Since then… delays, complications, and a lot of waiting, especially around the port project.

So instead of holding everything up, they’ve decided to change the approach.

What’s Actually Changing

The Cabildo and the Canary Islands Government have agreed to update the plan so work can move ahead without being tied to the port.

In simple terms… stop waiting, start building.

What They Want to Improve

The focus is on a few key areas:

  • The maritime park
  • A new San Felipe sports complex
  • The area around the aquatic centre
  • Better mobility and more parking
  • Improved public spaces and walkways

Nothing radical… just things that probably should’ve been done already.

Why It Matters

Puerto de la Cruz has been trying to reposition itself for years.

Less outdated, more modern… but without losing what makes it different from the south.

The issue has always been getting projects off the ground.

This change is meant to fix that.

The Real Test

On paper, it all sounds sensible.

Remove the bottlenecks, push ahead with what can be done now, and improve the city step by step.

But like most things here… it’ll come down to whether it actually gets delivered.

Worth Keeping an Eye On

If they follow through, this could make a noticeable difference to how Puerto feels over the next few years.

If not… it’s just another plan added to the pile.
