Tenerife’s First Sports Injury Unit Opens at Hospital Parque

Most medical announcements sound impressive…but unless you’re actually dealing with an injury, it all feels a bit distant.

This one’s worth noting, especially if you’re active here.

A first for Tenerife

Hospital Parque has launched the island’s first dedicated unit for sports injuries and trauma surgery.

That might not sound groundbreaking at first, but it’s the first time there’s been a specific unit focused purely on this side of things in Tenerife.

And with the number of people running, cycling, in the gym…or just overdoing it on a paddle court…it makes sense.

Not just for professionals

This isn’t aimed at elite athletes only.

It’s just as much for normal people who’ve picked up an injury and want to get back to doing what they were doing…without dragging it out for months.

That’s really the key difference.

The focus is on proper recovery, not just “fix it and off you go”.

More modern approach to treatment

They’re leaning heavily into minimally invasive procedures, especially things like arthroscopy.

In simple terms, smaller incisions, less damage, quicker recovery.

If you’ve ever had surgery before, you’ll know that part matters more than anything.

They’re also using regenerative treatments like platelet-rich plasma and other therapies designed to help the body heal itself faster.

Sounds a bit futuristic…but it’s becoming more common now.

Covering the usual problem areas

Most of the work will be around the typical injuries:

Knees
Shoulders
Hips
Ankles

Things like ligament damage, cartilage issues, rotator cuff injuries…all the usual suspects if you’re active.

They’re also handling joint replacements for hips and knees, again using less invasive techniques where possible.

The bigger picture

The aim here is to create a more complete system…diagnosis, treatment, and then proper recovery afterwards.

Which is where a lot of places fall short.

Fixing the injury is one thing. Getting someone back to full strength is something else entirely.

Worth paying attention to?

If you’re training regularly, playing sport, or just trying to stay in decent shape as you get older…yes.

Because injuries happen. Usually at the worst time possible.

And having something like this on the island, rather than needing to travel or wait months, is only a good thing.
