Tegueste Romería Draws 15,000+… One of Tenerife’s Biggest Traditional Days

If you’ve ever been to Tegueste for San Marcos…

You’ll know it’s not a small event.

This year proved it again.

The Numbers

More than 15,000 people filled the streets for the 58th Romería de San Marcos.

One of the biggest in the Canary Islands… and it shows.

How the Day Unfolded

It started the traditional way:

  • Morning mass
  • Procession of San Marcos

Then everything shifted into full romería mode.

What Makes It Stand Out

This isn’t just people walking through town.

It’s a full display of tradition:

  • 26 carretas
  • 5 carts
  • 4 boats (yes… boats on the street)

All decorated and built by locals… some of them proper works of art.

The Atmosphere

Add in:

  • Folkloric groups
  • Dancing
  • Livestock
  • Thousands of people in traditional dress

And you get that proper Canarian feel… loud, busy, and full of life.

Well-Organised Chaos

With crowds that size, it could easily go wrong…

But with 200+ security and emergency staff, everything ran smoothly.

Not Finished Yet

The celebrations carry on with the Día del Carretero:

📅 April 27
⏰ From 12:00

A chance to actually stop and look at the carretas up close.

Worth Knowing

There are plenty of romerías on the island…

…but a few stand out.

Tegueste is definitely one of them.
