Some of Europe’s best young female basketball players are heading to Tenerife

If you enjoy live sport, this is one of those events that’s well worth putting in the diary.

From 17th to 19th July, Santa Cruz will host the 10th Paco Apeles International Under-18 Women’s Basketball Tournament, bringing together some of Europe’s brightest young talent. Better still, entry is completely free.

The games will be played at the Quico Cabrera Sports Hall, where four teams will battle it out over three days. This year’s line-up includes Spain, Germany, Hungary, along with a Tenerife representative team.

A tournament that’s grown year after year

What started as a youth competition has steadily become one of the most respected women’s basketball tournaments in the Canary Islands.

It’s now in its tenth year and gives local fans the chance to watch players who could easily become tomorrow’s international stars.

For anyone who follows basketball, it’s a rare opportunity to see these young athletes before they reach the biggest stages of the game.

More than just the tournament

Basketball fans have even more to look forward to this July.

Santa Cruz will also host the Spanish 3×3 Cup, bringing together some of the country’s top teams, while the 4th Tenerife Youth 3×3 Tournament will once again take over the Explanada del Muelle with hundreds of young players competing throughout the event.

Before all of that gets underway, the Vega Gimeno 3×3 Development Clinic runs from 13th to 17th July at the Paco Álvarez Sports Hall.

Designed for younger players from mini through to junior level, it’s aimed at helping the next generation improve their skills under experienced coaches while promoting one of basketball’s fastest-growing Olympic disciplines.

A busy week for basketball in Tenerife

Whether you’re a regular basketball fan or simply looking for something different to do while you’re on the island, it’s shaping up to be a busy week.

Free international basketball, youth tournaments, 3×3 competitions and coaching clinics all taking place in Santa Cruz…there’s certainly no shortage of action.
