Scientific Research Vessel Opens to the Public in Santa Cruz de Tenerife

A unique scientific catamaran is visiting Santa Cruz de Tenerife Port, offering residents and visitors the chance to step aboard and discover how marine research is helping scientists better understand and protect the ocean.

The Gara Itsasoa will be open to the public on 3, 4 and 5 June 2026, with guided visits available between 09:00 and 19:00 at La Marina, Port of Santa Cruz de Tenerife.

A Floating Research Centre

Described as one of the most unique vessels of its kind in Spain, the Gara Itsasoa combines several functions in a single platform:

✔ Floating scientific laboratory

✔ Marine education centre

✔ Ocean exploration vessel

✔ Environmental awareness and outreach platform

The project brings together scientific research, sustainability, education and public engagement, helping connect people with the marine environment.

The project aims to strengthen the connection between science and society while promoting greater awareness of the marine environment throughout the Macaronesia region.
