Santa Cruz Approves €2.7M Plaza Project in Cabo Llanos

You’d think adding a bit of green space in Santa Cruz would be straightforward.

Apparently not…it’s taken a while to get here.

New plaza planned in Cabo Llanos

The council has finally approved plans for a new tree-lined plaza on Calle Celia Cruz…right between the Cabo Llanos towers.

If you know the area, it’s not exactly overflowing with greenery at the moment.

So this is meant to change that.

€2.7 million…all funded from outside

The project comes in at just under €2.8 million, and it’s being covered بالكامل by European funding.

Which, let’s be honest, probably makes the decision a lot easier.

Build time is estimated at 18 months…so don’t expect to be sitting under those trees any time soon.

What they’re actually building

The plan is fairly simple on paper.

More trees, proper seating areas, and a space people might actually want to use rather than just walk through.

They’re also talking about improving biodiversity…which usually means more planting, less concrete, and a bit more thought about how the space works long term.

All sounds good…assuming it ends up looking like the plans.

A response to what people have been asking for

According to the council, this has been something residents have wanted for a while.

Cabo Llanos has grown quickly over the years, but like a lot of newer areas, it’s been a bit heavy on buildings and light on usable public space.

So this is meant to balance that out a bit.

Still a way to go

At the moment, this is just the approval stage.

Next step is the usual admin process before anything actually starts on site.

So yes, it’s happening…but not just yet.

The reality is

Everyone talks about making cities greener.

Fewer people talk about how long it actually takes to get even a small project off the ground.

If this ends up being a proper usable space, it’ll be worth it.

But like most things here…it’s a bit of a waiting game.
