New Training Course Launching in Icod de los Vinos This May

If you’re living in or around Icod de los Vinos and looking for work, this is worth knowing about.

COAG Canarias is running a new training programme in the municipality this May, focused on organic agriculture and the valorisation of waste — two areas that are genuinely growing in the Canary Islands right now, not just buzzwords in a government document.

The programme sits within a larger project called Prepárate para una Economía Circular y Sostenible IV — or, for those of us who still think in English, “Prepare Yourself for a Circular and Sustainable Economy IV.” It’s the fourth edition, which suggests it’s been running for a while and has enough support to keep going. That’s usually a decent sign.

Who Is It For?

The course is aimed at people over 18 who are currently unemployed, with a particular focus on those who face greater barriers to getting back into the job market. That might mean people who’ve been out of work for a longer stretch, those without formal qualifications, or anyone who’s found it harder than most to get a foot in the door.

It’s not just classroom time either. The programme includes training, job orientation, and actual work placements with businesses. Getting real experience alongside the theory makes a big difference, especially when you’re trying to rebuild a CV or change direction professionally.

What’s Covered

The focus is on two areas: organic agriculture and waste valorisation. Organic farming in the Canary Islands is an increasingly serious sector — the islands export a significant amount of produce, and the demand for traceable, sustainably grown food isn’t going away. Knowing how to work in that world, or even set something up yourself, could genuinely open doors.

Waste valorisation is a less obvious one for most people, but it essentially means learning how to turn waste into something useful again — part of the broader shift towards circular economy thinking that’s coming down the line whether businesses are ready for it or not. Getting ahead of that curve isn’t a bad position to be in.

How to Sign Up

Registrations are open now and run until 4 May 2026. If this sounds relevant to you or someone you know, don’t leave it to the last minute. These kinds of programmes tend to have limited places and are filled on a first-come basis.

For more details on how to register, check with COAG Canarias directly or contact your local employment office in Icod de los Vinos.

It’s a practical initiative, and for the right person at the right stage, it could be a genuinely useful stepping stone.
