Photography enthusiasts and local history lovers will have plenty to enjoy this September as La Laguna hosts two popular events celebrating the municipality’s rich heritage and creative talent.
The XIX Old Photograph Exhibition, titled “Zenón the Photographer”, and the XVII Antonio García Rueda Photographic Marathon will both take place in San Cristóbal de La Laguna, showcasing the town’s past and present through the lens of photography.
Organised by the local Residents’ Association with support from La Laguna Town Hall’s Celebrations and Cultural Heritage departments, both events highlight the city’s status as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
A Journey Through La Laguna’s History
The “Zenón the Photographer” exhibition brings together more than three decades of historical photographs, offering a fascinating glimpse into La Laguna’s streets, people and important moments.
Residents are invited to contribute their own historic photographs, helping preserve the town’s collective memory.
Photographs can be submitted until 1 September at Foto Mundo Color, located at 8 Calle La Carrera.
Original images will be scanned free of charge and returned to their owners. Each participant may submit up to four photographs.
The selected images will be displayed from 5 to 15 September near the former Colegio Nava La Salle.
Annual Photography Marathon Returns
The XVII Antonio García Rueda Photographic Marathon also returns this year, inviting photographers of all experience levels to capture images based on a mystery theme revealed at registration.
Participants will compete for three cash prizes:
- 1st Prize: €200
- 2nd Prize: €100
- 3rd Prize: €50
Registration will be open via email between 4 and 5 September, closing at 12:00 noon on the final day.
The submitted photographs will also be exhibited from 10 to 15 September at the same venue as the historical exhibition.
Together, the two events celebrate both La Laguna’s rich photographic heritage and the creativity of today’s photographers, encouraging residents and visitors alike to see the UNESCO city through a different lens.
