La Laguna Town Hall has announced the seventh edition of its annual ‘La Laguna Orgullosa’ Literary Competition, inviting writers to submit original poems and micro-stories celebrating diversity, equality and inclusion.
Organised by the Department of Equality and LGBTIQA+, the competition forms part of the wider La Laguna Orgullosa 2026 programme, which includes cultural, educational, sporting and awareness-raising activities to mark International Pride Day.
Entries Open Until 20 July
The submission period opens on 20 June and will remain open until 20 July.
Participants can enter in one of two categories:
- Poetry – maximum 30 verses
- Micro-story – maximum 350 words
All entries must be written in Spanish and must be original, unpublished works.
Promoting Diversity Through Literature
Councillor Dailos González said the competition aims not only to recognise literary talent but also to provide a platform for stories and experiences that deserve greater visibility.
He highlighted the importance of using literature to promote inclusion, respect and understanding, while reinforcing La Laguna’s commitment to diversity and equality.
Prizes for Winners
The jury will assess submissions based on originality, literary quality and relevance to the competition’s themes.
Among the prizes on offer, the winners of both categories will receive the publication of a book under their name. Additional awards will include collections of LGBTI-themed books and other recognitions designed to encourage emerging literary talent across the Canary Islands.
The competition has become one of the regular highlights of La Laguna’s Pride programme, offering writers an opportunity to share stories that celebrate identity, diversity and community.
