Holy Wednesday in La Laguna was exactly what you’d expect if you’ve spent any time there… traditional, well organised, and properly attended.
The city had that usual feel about it. Not over the top, not chaotic… just steady, respectful, and very much rooted in what these events are supposed to be.
Things got going around six in the Plaza del Hermano Ramón, where a floral offering was made in front of his sculpture. The San Miguel Bugle and Drum Band were there as well, which added a bit of weight to it without turning it into a full spectacle.
Shortly after, over at the Parish of San Benito Abad, there was a Eucharist where new members of the confraternity had their habits blessed. Once that finished, the procession of Veronica and the Holy Face moved through the streets, and as always, it kept that quiet, solemn atmosphere La Laguna does better than most places.
By seven, things shifted to the Cathedral, with a Mass in honour of Our Father Jesus of Nazareth and Our Lady of Solitude. Same again… new members welcomed in, traditions carried on, nothing rushed.
After that, the main procession stepped out, with the Sacred Images moving through the city alongside the different brotherhoods. The image of Ecce Homo joined in as well, along with the Brotherhood of the Blood of Christ and the Holy Cross, which added to the scale of it all.
One of the more meaningful moments came with the floral offering at the old door of the Church of San Agustín. Not loud, not dramatic… just one of those small touches that seems to matter more than anything else.
All in all, a solid Holy Wednesday in La Laguna. Good turnout, everything ran as it should, and the kind of atmosphere that reminds you these traditions are still very much alive here.
