Halloween events in Tenerife affected by Spain’s three days of national mourning

Halloween plans across Tenerife are being affected by Spain’s three days of national mourning following the tragic railway accident in Toledo. Several councils have suspended or postponed public celebrations as a mark of respect for the victims and their families.

The mourning period runs from Thursday 29 October until midnight on Saturday 31 October, coinciding with one of the busiest weekends of the year for Halloween events.

However, not every event in Tenerife has automatically been cancelled, so it’s worth checking with the organiser before heading out.

Adeje postpones Halloween activities

Adeje Council has postponed extraordinary social and cultural activities scheduled between Thursday 29 October and Sunday morning, 1 November.

This affects the free Halloween celebration planned for Saturday evening in La Postura, including activities at Plaza La Concordia and Plaza Piedra Redonda. The event has been marked as cancelled on the council’s official events agenda.

The council was expected to provide further information about affected activities and possible rearranged dates on Friday 30 October.

Arona and Santa Cruz observe official mourning

Arona and Santa Cruz de Tenerife have also declared official mourning following the accident.

However, this does not necessarily mean every Halloween event or private celebration in either municipality has been cancelled. Residents and visitors should check the latest announcements from individual organisers before making plans.

El Sauzal has also reportedly suspended its family Halloween activities planned for Saturday 31 October in Plaza del Príncipe, although confirmation of the latest arrangements was still pending in the information available.

Schools and other events may be affected

Some schools across Tenerife are also reviewing their Halloween plans, including fancy-dress days and other celebrations.

Parents are advised to check messages from their children’s schools before sending them in costume, as arrangements may differ between establishments.

The situation remains event-specific, with some activities cancelled, others postponed and some potentially continuing as planned.

Check before heading out

With arrangements changing at short notice, the best advice for anyone planning Halloween activities in Tenerife is to check the relevant town council’s website or social media pages before travelling.

The official mourning period ends at midnight on Saturday 31 October. Some postponed events may be rescheduled for Sunday 1 November, but replacement dates should not be assumed unless confirmed by the organisers.
