Garachico’s Historic Centre Set for €400,000 Upgrade

Garachico’s getting a bit of attention… and rightly so.

The Cabildo has approved an investment of over €400,000 to improve and preserve parts of the town’s historical heritage, focusing mainly on the old town and one of its most important buildings.

It’s part of a wider package across the island, but Garachico is getting a decent share of it.

Where the Money’s Going

The main chunk is going into the cobbled streets of the historic centre, with around €250,000 set aside to repair and maintain them.

If you’ve walked through Garachico, you’ll know those streets are a big part of its character… but they do take a bit of a beating over time.

There’s also funding for the Monastery of the Immaculate Conception, which is officially listed as a protected cultural site. That project comes in at just over €217,000 and focuses on conservation and general upkeep.

Part of a Bigger Plan

Overall, the funding sits within a wider €800,000+ investment across different heritage projects on the island.

So this isn’t a one-off… it’s part of a broader push to keep these places in good condition, both for locals and for tourism.

Why it’s important.

Garachico’s one of those towns that still feels like it’s held onto its identity.

And the reality is, without this kind of ongoing work, places like that start to lose what makes them special.

This isn’t a flashy project. No big headlines, no grand openings.

Just the kind of maintenance that quietly keeps everything as it should be.
