Living in Tenerife, it’s easy to forget that we’re on a volcanic island.
Mount Teide becomes part of the scenery, and most of us don’t give it a second thought.
That’s exactly why INVOLCAN is bringing its “Canarias: A Volcanic Window” event to Granadilla de Abona on 14th and 15th July, giving residents the chance to learn more about the volcanoes that shaped the Canary Islands and how scientists monitor them today.

The free event will take place at the San Isidro Espacio Cívico (SIEC), with talks starting at 5:00pm on both days.
Over the two evenings, specialists will explain volcanic hazards, how risks are assessed and reduced, and what happens behind the scenes when emergency plans need to be put into action.
Now, nobody’s suggesting Teide is about to wake up tomorrow.
But understanding the landscape we live on, and knowing how the Canary Islands prepare for volcanic activity, is never a bad thing.
The talks are aimed at everyone, so you don’t need a background in science to enjoy them. Whether you’re simply curious about Tenerife’s volcanic history or want to understand how monitoring and emergency planning work, you’ll almost certainly learn something new.
Admission is free, so if you’re in the Granadilla area, it’s well worth popping along.
