A Small Change That Matters… La Laguna Brings Quiet Zones to Semana Santa

La Laguna has done something this year that, to be honest, you don’t see nearly enough of.

They’re introducing a noise-free section during some of the Semana Santa processions on Holy Thursday and Good Friday. Nothing complicated… just a stretch of the route where the bands stop playing and things quieten down a bit.

It’s been put in place for people who are neurodivergent or have sensitivity to noise, which makes a lot of sense when you think about how loud and intense these events can get.

The quiet section will be along San Agustín street, near the Cabrera Pinto school, and it’ll be in place during the main Thursday procession and the big Good Friday one as well. So not tucked away somewhere random… it’s right in the middle of things where it actually matters.

During that part, the music stops completely. No bands, no background noise, just the procession as it is. Simple idea, but probably makes a big difference for some people.

Apparently they’ve done similar things before with events like the Three Kings parade, so this isn’t a one-off. It’s something they’re gradually building into more of the local events, which is how it should be really.

It’s also worth saying, La Laguna’s Semana Santa is already one of the more well-known ones in the Canaries, so adding something like this just makes it more accessible without taking anything away from it.

Not a big flashy change… but a sensible one.
