Puerto de la Cruz is preparing for one of its most iconic celebrations as the San Juan Festival 2026 returns with traditional fountain decorations, bonfires, live music, and the famous goat bathing ceremony.
Traditional Fountain Decorations
22-23 June | Various Locations
The city’s historic water fountains will be decorated in the traditional way at locations including El Muelle, Mequinez, Las Maretas, Cupido, Blanco, Cuaco, El Durazno and Punta Brava.
On 23 June at 11:00am, visitors can join a guided walking tour, “Las fiestas de San Juan en el Puerto”, exploring the decorated fountains and the history behind this unique tradition. Advance registration is required via the Lhorsa website.
San Juan Bonfires
23 June | Playa Jardín
The celebrations begin at 6:30pm with the traditional procession of the San Juan figure from the Municipal Market to the Peñón area, passing through Castillo de San Felipe.
The main bonfire will be lit at 10:00pm, accompanied by live music throughout the evening:
- 9:00pm – Grupo Caracolas: Matria
- 11:00pm – Grupo Jeita: De Vuelta
- 1:00am – Tribute to Maná by La Chalana
The Famous Goat Bathing Tradition
24 June | Fishing Harbour
One of Tenerife’s most distinctive San Juan traditions returns from 8:00am to 12:30pm, when local goats are brought to the sea for their annual ceremonial bath at the Puerto de la Cruz fishing harbour.

Families can enjoy a range of traditional Canarian activities, including:
- Demonstrations and games of Juego del Palo (Canarian stick fighting)
- Performance by the University of La Laguna Faculty of Education Folk Group
- Traditional Canarian strategy games presented by researcher José Manuel Espinel Cejas
