Tenerife Launches ‘Tardes de Película’ Cultural Cinema Programme for Seniors

The Cabildo de Tenerife, through public company Sinpromi, has launched ‘Tardes de Película’, a new cultural initiative designed specifically for the island’s senior population.

Part of the wider Islénior programme, the project will offer 14 film screenings alongside cultural mediation activities, talks, and discussion forums aimed at encouraging participation, learning, and social connection.

The programme was officially presented at Multicines Tenerife, with representatives from the Cabildo, Sinpromi, the Asociación Charlas de Cine, and film analyst Fernando Iturrate in attendance.

Cinema as a Tool for Wellbeing

According to Social Action Councillor Águeda Fumero, the initiative aims to guarantee access to quality cultural experiences for older residents while creating opportunities for social interaction and inclusion.

The programme has been designed not only as entertainment but also as a way to stimulate memory, encourage conversation, and help combat loneliness among Tenerife’s senior community.

Through a combination of film screenings and guided discussions, participants will be able to share experiences, reflect on the stories presented on screen, and enjoy regular social and cultural activities in a welcoming environment.

This new initiative forms part of Tenerife’s ongoing commitment to promoting active ageing and improving the emotional and social wellbeing of older residents.
