Two Big Sporting Events Coming to Anaga in October

Anaga has two very different sporting challenges coming up in October. One involves running across some of the most spectacular landscapes in Santa Cruz. The other involves finding a decent wave.

So, take your pick… or do both if you’re feeling ambitious.

Santa Cruz Extreme

If running is your thing, Santa Cruz Extreme 2026 takes place on 17 October.

The event takes competitors through some of the landscapes of the Anaga Massif Biosphere Reserve, with routes stretching from the coast towards the mountains.

It’s one of the more spectacular events on Santa Cruz’s sporting calendar, although spectacular probably isn’t the first word you’ll use when your legs are complaining halfway up a hill.

Almáciga Surfing 2026

Prefer your sport with a board and a bit more water?

Almáciga Surfing 2026 takes place from 30 October to 1 November.

The event includes the National Junior Surf Championship as well as the Open Almáciga 2026, bringing competitive surfing back to the Anaga coastline.

Registration is already open through the Canarian Surf Federation.

Two ways to enjoy Anaga

So there are two sporting options in Anaga this October.

You can run from the coast towards the mountains, or head for Almáciga and see what the Atlantic has in store.

Either way, the setting isn’t exactly a bad one.
