Machado is getting ready for another edition of its fiestas in honour of Our Lady of the Rosary, patron saint of the municipality of El Rosario.
The programme combines religious traditions with music, culture, sport and activities for different ages, beginning on Sunday 27 September with the traditional pilgrimage from the Las Rosas hermitage to the Machado hermitage.
Anniversary of the Coronation
One of the main moments of the celebrations comes on Sunday 4 October, marking the first anniversary of the Canonical Coronation of Our Lady of the Rosary.
The anniversary will be commemorated during a solemn Eucharistic celebration, followed by a procession carrying the image to El Calvario.
The procession will be accompanied by the ACM Princesa Yaiza de El Rosario band, with the day finishing with a dance featuring Orquesta Ideales.
Religious celebrations
The religious programme continues on Tuesday 6 October and Wednesday 7 October, the feast day of Our Lady of the Rosary.
Another procession to El Calvario will take place on the 7th, again accompanied by the ACM Princesa Yaiza band.
There will also be a performance of Ave María by Besay Pérez, followed by the traditional offering to the Virgin, with several local folk groups taking part.
A celebration of local folklore
One of the main cultural events will be the 4th Festival de Solistas, taking place on 11 October.
This year’s festival will pay tribute to local resident Elías Rodríguez, who has played an important role in the municipality’s folklore and popular culture.
Under the musical direction of Marco del Castillo, the event will feature Leyla Melo, Pedro Manuel Afonso, Nico Delgado, José Manuel Ramos, Ramón Jerez and Luis Ramos, alongside other guest soloists.
A day of community activities and participation is also planned for 12 October, giving the celebrations another chance to bring residents together.
With religion, music, folklore and community events all forming part of the programme, Machado’s fiestas offer a good example of the traditional celebrations that continue to play an important role in Tenerife’s towns and villages.
