Toni Acosta Reveals Her Favourite Tenerife Restaurant: “Coming Here Feels Like Coming Home”

When it comes to great food, even some of Spain’s most recognisable faces prefer simple, authentic restaurants over trendy hotspots and expensive tasting menus.

That was evident in the latest edition of the Repsol Guide Soletes, where more than 60 well-known personalities shared their favourite places to eat across Spain.

Among them was Tenerife-born actress Toni Acosta, who chose a restaurant deeply connected to her roots and childhood memories.

A Special Corner of Anaga

Acosta’s recommendation was Playa Casa África, located in Roque de las Bodegas, Taganana, one of the most beautiful corners of the Anaga Rural Park.

Awarded a Repsol Guide Solete, the family-run restaurant has become a favourite for both locals and visitors seeking traditional Canarian cuisine in an unforgettable setting.

For the actress, the experience begins long before arriving at the table.

“Coming here feels like coming home. The food is authentic: wrinkled potatoes, mojo sauce, fish strips… exactly as I remember them from my childhood.”

She also highlighted the journey through Anaga itself, describing the drive across the mountain range as part of what makes the visit so special.

More Than Just a Restaurant

Surrounded by dramatic cliffs, black-sand beaches and the rugged landscapes that have made Anaga a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve, Playa Casa África offers one of the most spectacular dining locations on the island.

The Atlantic Ocean provides the backdrop while guests enjoy some of Tenerife’s most traditional dishes.

It’s the sort of place where the scenery is almost as memorable as the food.

A Family Story Dating Back to 1962

The restaurant’s history stretches back more than six decades.

The family first opened the business in 1962, operating from what was originally an old local winery. Since then, generation after generation has continued the tradition of serving classic Tenerife cuisine while maintaining a strong commitment to local produce.

Their philosophy remains simple: work with local fishermen and farmers from the Anaga region to ensure the freshest ingredients possible.

This focus on locally sourced products and traditional recipes is one of the reasons the restaurant earned its Repsol Solete recognition.

What to Order

The menu focuses on Canarian classics rather than complicated modern creations.

Popular dishes include:

  • Tuna in sauce
  • Fried octopus
  • Stewed octopus
  • Homemade fish strips served with lemon and alioli
  • Wrinkled potatoes with mojo
  • Grilled local cheese

It’s straightforward food done exceptionally well.

Dining by the Atlantic

One thing visitors should know before making the trip: Playa Casa África does not take reservations.

Tables are allocated on a first-come, first-served basis, particularly during busy weekends and holiday periods.

There is a spacious indoor dining area, along with a highly sought-after terrace where guests can enjoy a drink while waiting for a table and take in the stunning ocean views.
