The Bocadillazo food trail returns to Santa Cruz

The Ruta del Bocadillazo is back in Santa Cruz de Tenerife, giving food lovers a chance to try some inventive local creations for just €4.

Running from 12 November to 6 December, this edition focuses on the Southwest District. The initiative is organised by Santa Cruz Council through its Development Society, with registrations now open for local bars, restaurants, cafés and other food businesses wanting to take part.

There’s a deadline for businesses to get involved, with applications closing at 2pm on 10 November.

More than just sandwiches

This year, the organisers are widening the definition of a bocadillo, so it’s not just about the traditional sandwich.

Participating businesses can offer all sorts of creations using different breads and doughs, including sandwiches, croissants, arepas, burgers and similar dishes. Each culinary offering will cost €4, with drinks charged separately.

It should make for a more varied food trail, with plenty of scope for businesses to put their own spin on things.

Vote for your favourites

Visitors will be able to vote for their favourite creations through a dedicated web app.

The three businesses receiving the most votes will each receive a certificate and an award, along with promotional support. There’s also prize money up for grabs:

  • First place: €200
  • Second place: €150
  • Third place: €100

A maximum of 30 hospitality businesses will be accepted, including bars, restaurants, areperas, cafés, gastrotascas and similar establishments based in the district.

Which neighbourhoods are included?

The Southwest District covers Llano del Moro, El Sobradillo, El Tablero, Alisios, La Gallega, Añaza, El Chorrillo, Santa María del Mar, Acorán, Barranco Grande, El Rosarito, Tíncer and El Draguillo.

Businesses interested in joining the route can submit their applications through the online registration form before the deadline.

For everyone else, November and early December look like a good excuse to explore the district, try something different and decide which local spot deserves bragging rights.
