Tegueste hosts two events to support the future of local farming

There are two interesting events coming up in Tegueste this November for anyone involved in agriculture, or simply interested in where our local food comes from.

The Mercado del Agricultor y Artesano de Tegueste, working alongside Tegueste Town Hall, is organising a series of activities designed to share knowledge, bring people together and explore new opportunities for the island’s primary sector.

9 and 10 November: Traditional fruit trees and new opportunities

The first two-day event, Los frutales de aquí, una oportunidad (Our Local Fruit Trees, an Opportunity), focuses on traditional fruit varieties grown in the Canary Islands.

The programme will cover sustainable growing techniques, pruning and grafting, pest control, nurseries and ways of diversifying agricultural businesses.

It’s a chance to look at how traditional varieties can remain part of modern farming, rather than slowly disappearing from the landscape.

18 November: Experiences that inspire

The second event, Experiencias que inspiran, takes place on 18 November.

It will bring together projects and experiences from other territories, looking at subjects such as starting a business, generational change in farming, innovation, restoring agricultural landscapes and finding new ways to sell local produce.

Both events will take place at Casa Prebendado Pacheco in Tegueste.

The programme is supported by the Tenerife Cabildo and GMR Canarias through Volcanic Xperience.

Anyone interested in attending can find the full programme and registration details through the QR code on the event poster.

It’s good to see initiatives looking at how farming in Tenerife can hold on to its traditions while finding ways to make a living and attract the next generation.
