Santa Cruz’s May Festivals 2026 Hit Record Participation… 85 Contestants Take the Stage

Santa Cruz isn’t doing things by halves this year.

The May Festivities are coming in with record participation… 85 contestants across the main galas, which tells you the interest is very much still there.

A Proper Turnout This Year

These aren’t small numbers.

You’ve got entries across:

  • Adult Queen
  • Children’s Mago and Maga
  • Queen of the Elderly

All taking place in Plaza de La Candelaria between 24th and 26th April, just after the opening speech on the 21st.

Still Growing, Not Fading

For something that’s been around this long, it could easily lose momentum.

But it hasn’t.

If anything, it’s picking up again… especially with newer additions like the Queen of the Elderly gala, which has jumped from 9 contestants last year to a full 20 this time.

That says a lot.

How It Breaks Down

  • Friday 24 April – Adult Queen (35 candidates)
  • Saturday 25 April – Queen of the Elderly (20 candidates)
  • Sunday 26 April – Children’s Gala
    • 20 girls (Maga Infantil)
    • 10 boys (Mago Infantil)

So it’s spread out nicely over the weekend.

More Than Just a Gala

These events are one of those things that still feel properly local.

Families involved, associations taking part… not just something put on for show.

That’s probably why the numbers keep going up.

Worth Seeing?

If you’ve never been, it’s worth seeing at least once.

It’s not slick or overproduced… but that’s part of the charm.

And with this many people taking part this year, the atmosphere should be decent.
