Santa Cruz moves Carnaval 2027… and confirms key holiday dates

Santa Cruz sets 2027 holidays… and pushes Carnaval back

Santa Cruz has confirmed its local holidays for 2027, and there’s a bit of a twist… Carnaval is being shifted.

The two key dates locked in are:

Carnaval Tuesday on 23rd February
Day of the Cross on 3rd May

But the bigger story is why Carnaval isn’t sitting where it normally does.

Why Carnaval is moving

It comes down to logistics… nothing more dramatic than that.

The Recinto Ferial, which is central to the whole setup, will still be in use until 6th January because of the PIT (the kids’ fair they run every year).

If they stuck to the usual schedule, they’d have barely any time to dismantle that and build everything needed for Carnaval.

And anyone who’s seen the scale of it will know… that’s not a quick job.

The new timeline

So instead of rushing it, they’ve pushed things back slightly.

The opening gala is now set for 22nd January 2027
Street celebrations will run from 19th to 28th February

Which gives organisers a bit more breathing room to actually get things done properly.

Why it matters

Carnaval here isn’t just a few parades and some music.

It’s one of the biggest events on the island… culturally and financially.

So if it’s not organised properly, it shows.

This adjustment is basically about avoiding that.

More time… fewer problems (in theory)

The council’s angle is simple.

More time means better setup, better coordination, and fewer last-minute issues.

That applies to everyone involved… from the groups taking part to the businesses relying on it.

Whether it all runs smoothly… well, that’s another conversation.

One thing worth noting

At least this is being sorted well in advance.

Which is more than can be said for a lot of things.

Better to shift the dates now than scramble at the last minute.
