One of Santa Cruz’s Most Cherished Traditions
The Virgen del Carmen festivities remain one of the Port of Santa Cruz’s most important annual traditions, with a programme that extends beyond the maritime procession to include sporting activities, community events, recognition ceremonies for members of the port community organised by the Port Police, and the traditional fraternity lunch.
The highlight of the celebrations continues to be the procession itself, when the image of the Virgen del Carmen is carried aboard a vessel and escorted through the waters of the Dársena de Anaga by a flotilla of decorated boats.
