If there’s one event that captures Andalusia in full colour…
It’s probably this one.
📍 Jerez Horse Fair 2026
🗓 May 9 – 16, 2026
📍 González Hontoria Park, Jerez de la Frontera (Cádiz)
For one week, Jerez turns into a huge mix of:
- Horses
- Flamenco
- Sevillanas
- Food
- Wine
- And very little sleep
A Tradition Going Back Centuries
The fair dates back to the 13th century, originally starting as a livestock market authorised by King Alfonso X.
Now it’s one of the biggest festivals in Andalusia…
But the horse remains at the centre of it all.
What You’ll See
🐎 Horse and carriage parades through the fairground
🎶 Flamenco performances and live music
💃 Sevillanas everywhere
🍷 Jerez wine flowing constantly
🍤 Fried fish, Iberian ham and traditional Andalusian food
Basically… a full sensory overload.
The Casetas
The marquees, or casetas, are where most of the social life happens.
Many are open to the public and filled with:
- Dancing
- Music
- Eating
- Drinking
- People attempting sevillanas after several rebujitos
Some more successfully than others.
Extra Focus This Year
2026 also highlights gastronomy even more heavily, with Jerez holding the title of:
🍽 Spanish Capital of Gastronomy
Which feels fairly on-brand.
Family & Inclusive Activities
The fair also includes:
- Children’s Day with discounted rides
- Inclusive events
- Low-noise areas and accessibility improvements
So it’s not just aimed at tourists and partygoers.
Worth Knowing
The atmosphere changes completely from day to night.
Daytime feels traditional and elegant…
Night-time becomes considerably louder and more chaotic.
Very Andalusian…but in La Laguna, Tenerife.
