Arguayo is getting ready for one of the most traditional and lively weeks in Santiago del Teide’s festive calendar as the celebrations in honour of San Isidro Labrador return from 8th to 15th May.
And, as always, the romería is expected to be the main event.
A Full Week of Festivities
The programme kicks off on Friday 8th May at 8:00pm with the Grand Gala for the Election of the Romeras of Santiago del Teide.
Then on Saturday 9th May, things start early with:
🎈 Children’s inflatables from 10:00am to 2:00pm
🍰 The XIX Mariano Rodríguez Rodríguez Dessert Competition
🌺 Balcony Decoration Contest
🎶 Live performance by Álvaro Mansito
Later in the evening, the village hosts the XXIV Baile de Magos, featuring performances from:
- Tayme
- Raíces
- Araza
- Cherfe-Chinyero
- Los Dóniz
- El Golpito
- Chaveña
- Parranda El Mesturao
Which basically means traditional music, local food, Canarian dress and a very late night/early morning for many people…
Sunday’s Romería Takes Centre Stage
The highlight arrives on Sunday 10th May with the traditional San Isidro Romería.
The day begins at 1:30pm with a mass in honour of San Isidro, led by parish priest Víctor Manuel Fernández and accompanied by AF Imoque.
Afterwards, the romería procession will make its way through the usual route towards Las Eras de Arguayo Park, joined by parrandas, folk groups and decorated carts.
The celebrations continue afterwards with dancing and live music from:
🎺 Guaracha
🎵 Arguayo Band
Closing Celebrations
On Monday 11th May, the Image of San Isidro will be carried down to the parish of Nuestra Señora de Candelaria, accompanied by the Santa Catalina Fanfare, followed by food for attendees.
The festivities then come to a close on Friday 15th May with a concert by legendary Canarian folk group Los Sabandeños from 7:30pm, before Grupo Paraíso finishes the celebrations.
One thing Tenerife does well…
It’s village fiestas.
