Higopico has been looking after young children in Tenerife for more than 26 years, combining early education with the sort of care and attention that makes life considerably easier for parents.
The organisation currently operates four authorised centres across the island: Higopico Santa María, Higopico Candelaria, Higopico La Laguna and Crisol de Amistad in Ofra.
Together, they provide an early-years education model focused on both childcare and the individual development of each child.
Around 30 staff and kitchens in every centre
Higopico employs around 30 people across its centres, with each one having its own kitchen.
Meals are prepared using locally sourced ingredients, rather than relying on a central catering operation. It’s a relatively simple idea, but one that makes a difference when you’re dealing with young children and their daily routines.
The organisation also participates in the Canary Islands Government’s child bonus scheme.
During the 2025/26 school year, this support helped 120 families reduce their monthly costs, with some paying as little as £60 per month between September and June.
For families with young children, anything that takes a bit of pressure off the household budget is worth having.
A new early childhood conference
Higopico is now looking beyond its classrooms with the launch of its first Higopico Conference on Early Childhood Education, taking place on 3 October 2026 at the Tenerife Trade Fair Auditorium.
The event is designed to bring parents together with professionals working in child health, psychology and development.

Experts sharing their experience
The conference will feature several speakers from different areas of child development.
Dr Iván Abreu, a paediatrician, will bring a medical perspective, while psychologist Isabel Bermúdez will focus on psychological development.
Children’s nurse Pedro Camacho will also take part, adding his experience from the nursing and healthcare side of early childhood.
The idea is to give parents practical information from professionals rather than leaving them to work everything out through late-night Google searches, which is rarely a recipe for calm.
Supporting families beyond the classroom
After more than two decades working with young children, Higopico is using the conference to extend its role within the wider Canarian community.
The focus is not just on what happens during the school day, but also on helping parents make informed decisions about their children’s health, development and wellbeing.
The first conference takes place on Saturday, 3 October 2026, offering families an opportunity to hear directly from professionals and pick up some useful ideas along the way.
