Los Silos Town Council has transferred a 622-square-metre plot of land to the Canary Islands Government for the development of new public housing.
The Canary Islands Housing Institute, ICAVI, has accepted the land free of charge. The plot, valued at €262,205.71, is located at numbers 6, 8 and 10 on Calle Efigenia in the San Bernardo-Las Canteras area of Los Silos.
The land will now become part of ICAVI’s public assets and could eventually be used for a new housing development in the municipality.
Housing land secured
According to the Canary Islands Government’s Ministry of Public Works, Housing and Mobility, securing the plot provides the public space needed to move forward with future housing projects in Los Silos.
There are currently no details on how many homes could be built on the site or when construction might begin.
So, for the moment, it’s a case of getting the land in place first and working out what comes next.
Part of the 2026-2030 housing plans
ICAVI director Pino de León said the transfer will increase the amount of publicly owned land available to help address housing needs among families in the municipality.
She also highlighted the importance of cooperation between the Canary Islands Government and local councils, particularly when it comes to making suitable land available for new homes.
The transfer forms part of the wider approach being developed for the Canary Islands Housing Plan 2026-2030, which is intended to increase the availability of public housing across the islands.
For Los Silos, the important bit is now fairly straightforward. A plot of land has been secured for that purpose. The number of homes and the timetable will come later.
