Guamasa Keeps Tradition Alive with Romera Mayor Election and Baile de Magos

Guamasa stepped back into full fiesta mode last weekend as the village celebrated one of the most traditional dates in its calendar.

The election of the Romera Mayor and the Baile de Magos in honour of San Isidro Labrador brought locals and visitors together for an evening of music, Canarian dress and plenty of food shared around the tables.

Pretty much the recipe for a Tenerife celebration really.

Tradition Takes Centre Stage

Families and groups arrived dressed in traditional clothing to enjoy:

• Canarian food and local wine
• Folk music and performances
• Community gatherings
• Traditional festivities linked to San Isidro Labrador

One of the key moments of the evening was the election of the Romera Mayor, a long-standing tradition that remains an important part of Guamasa’s celebrations.

Part of Tenerife’s Romería Calendar

The Baile de Magos in Guamasa forms part of the wider calendar of romerías and traditional fiestas celebrated across Tenerife every year.

Events like these keep local customs visible and continue passing traditions to younger generations.

And judging by the turnout…

There’s no shortage of people willing to keep showing up in traje de mago.

May in Tenerife always feels a bit like this.

One baile ends…

Another starts.
