FMUC 2026 Opens with Contemporary Music, Poetry and Live Dialogue in Santa Cruz

Some concerts are easy listening.

Others involve contemporary percussion, electronic soundscapes, Emily Dickinson and deep conversations about artistic creation.

This one definitely falls into the second category.

FMUC 2026 Opens on May 29th

🎵 FMUC 2026 Opening Concert
📅 Friday 29th May 2026
⏰ 7:30pm

The new edition of FMUC opens with a concert-dialogue featuring:

🎤 Tenor Airam Hernández
🥁 Percussionist Verónica Cagigao

Alongside works premiering from several contemporary composers.

A Programme Mixing Music, Poetry and Electronics

The evening will include first performances of works by:

🎼 José Luis Perdigón
🎼 Mario Carro
🎼 Samuel Aguilar
🎼 Sergio Blardony

Including:

🌌 Enceladus — José Luis Perdigón
A piece exploring atmospheric sound textures

📖 Poemas de la Isla — Mario Carro
Based on texts by Josefina de la Torre

💔 Del Llanto — Samuel Aguilar
Inspired by Federico García Lorca

…and Suddenness — Sergio Blardony
Combining electronics with poetry by Emily Dickinson

Which honestly sounds like the sort of concert where you leave either deeply inspired…or quietly pretending you fully understood everything.

Young Musicians Also Take Part

The event will also feature students from the Professional Percussion Department of the Conservatorio Profesional de Música de Santa Cruz de Tenerife.

Adding younger talent into a programme centred around contemporary musical creation and experimentation.

More Than Just a Concert

FMUC describes the evening as a close and interactive encounter between:

🎼 Composers
🎭 Performers
👥 The audience

With conversations and anecdotes woven into the performance itself.

So not the type of event where everyone politely claps and immediately heads for the exit.

Worth Knowing

Contemporary classical music events aren’t always the easiest sell.

But they do make a refreshing change from hearing the same eight songs at every fiesta on the island.
