El Médano Windsurf World Championship | 31st July to 9th August 2026

If you’ve ever visited El Médano on a windy day, you’ll know why it’s considered one of the best places in the world for windsurfing.

From 31st July to 9th August, the resort will once again take centre stage as it hosts the 12th PWA/WWT Open, Junior and Masters Windsurf World Championship, bringing many of the world’s top riders back to Tenerife.

This year, there’s an added bonus, with the Spanish Open Championship also taking place alongside the international competition.

The world’s best return to El Médano

The action will once again be centred around Playa de El Cabezo, one of Europe’s best-known windsurfing beaches.

Over ten days, competitors from around the world will battle it out in the Open, Junior and Masters categories, with both men’s and women’s events taking place.

El Médano has built a strong reputation on the international windsurfing circuit, and this event continues to cement its position as one of the sport’s premier destinations.

A new attraction for 2026

One of the biggest additions this year is the introduction of the Foil Drive Challenge.

Visitors will be able to see some of the latest equipment and technology in the sport, watch demonstrations on the water and enjoy a weekend dedicated to one of the fastest-growing areas of watersports.

It’s something a little different and should appeal to experienced riders as well as those who simply enjoy watching from the beach.

More than just windsurfing

One of the reasons this event has become so popular is that it isn’t only about the competition.

Throughout the ten days there’ll be a festival atmosphere with plenty happening away from the water.

Visitors can enjoy food stalls, a shopping area featuring watersports brands, live music, technical talks, workshops and activities for children, making it an event that’s just as enjoyable for families as it is for windsurfing enthusiasts.

A highlight of Tenerife’s summer

Events like this remind you that Tenerife offers far more than sunshine and beaches.

For ten days, El Médano becomes the centre of the windsurfing world, attracting elite athletes, spectators and visitors from across Europe and beyond.

Whether you’re passionate about watersports or simply fancy spending a day by the sea with plenty going on, it’s one of the island’s standout events this summer.
