Food, folklore, crafts, traditional games and live Canarian music…
Exactly how Día de Canarias should be celebrated really.
A Full Day of Canarian Traditions
The Department of Citizen Participation, led by councillor Adaisy Arias, has organised a special programme of activities to celebrate:
🇮🇨 Canary Islands Day 2026
With events taking place across:
📍 Charco del Pino
📍 Los Abrigos
📍 San Isidro
From:
🕙 10:00am to 6:00pm
Traditional Workshops and Activities
Throughout the morning, visitors can enjoy:
🧵 Traditional Canarian workshops
🎲 Cultural games and activities
🏝 Experiences linked to local customs and heritage
Across all three locations.
A good reminder that Canarian traditions involve far more than just dressing up once a year and eating gofio until you regret your life choices.
Community Food and Shared Celebrations
At midday, the celebrations continue with:
🍲 Popular communal food
Designed to bring neighbours, families and visitors together in a relaxed community atmosphere.
Which usually means somebody’s grandmother quietly wins the entire event with one homemade dish.
Crafts, Music and Folklore
During the day there will also be:
🧺 Artisan and craft displays
🎶 Live Canarian music
💃 Folklore and cultural activities
Helping keep traditional island customs alive for younger generations as well as visitors.
Keeping Canarian Identity Alive
Councillor Adaisy Arias highlighted the importance of continuing to preserve and promote Canarian traditions and cultural identity throughout the municipality.
Because in places like Tenerife, traditions don’t really survive by accident.
People actively keep them alive.
Worth Knowing
Canary Islands Day celebrations always feel slightly different from other fiestas on the island.
Less about spectacle.
More about identity, community and remembering where things came from in the first place.
