Air Canada launches direct Toronto flights to Tenerife, with Montreal route next

Tenerife has welcomed its first direct Air Canada flight from Toronto, with a second connection from Montreal due to begin on 31 October. It’s a welcome boost for the island’s winter travel options and its links with the Canadian market.

The first Toronto flight landed at Tenerife South Airport at 9.10am on Monday, 26 October. The aircraft was an Airbus A321XLR, greeted on arrival in what air traffic controllers described as a special welcome.

The Toronto route will operate during the winter season, while the Montreal connection is scheduled to continue through the summer as well.

Between the two routes, Air Canada plans to offer four flights a week during winter and three a week in summer.

More than just flights to Canada

The new services also open up connections beyond Toronto and Montreal. Through Air Canada’s wider network, passengers will be able to connect with destinations across Canada, the United States, the Caribbean, Central America and South America.

According to Alexandre Lefèvre, Air Canada’s vice-president of Network Planning and Global Sales, bookings have been exceptionally strong. The Cabildo says the launch ranks among the airline’s most successful introductions to a new market.

That’s encouraging news for Tenerife, particularly as the island looks to attract more visitors during the winter months.

Building links with the Canadian travel industry

Alongside the launch, representatives from Turismo de Tenerife, Ashotel, the Santa Cruz de Tenerife Chamber of Commerce and local businesses have met with Air Canada executives and tourism professionals in Montreal.

The meeting focused on strengthening commercial relationships and exploring further business opportunities between Canada and Tenerife.

Direct flights make the journey simpler, but building relationships with travel companies and the tourism industry is just as important if the island wants to turn those connections into lasting business.

With Toronto now operating and Montreal due to follow shortly, Tenerife is strengthening its links with Canada and giving travellers another way to reach the island.
