Adeje is looking at how to create more jobs, support local businesses and encourage innovation over the next few years. Its latest step was taking part in the REDEL General Assembly, held in Jaén on 22 October.
REDEL was established in 2007 and brings together organisations working on local economic development. Between them, its members cover 2,282 Spanish municipalities and a population of more than 25.4 million people.
Adeje’s participation fits with the council’s wider plans around employment, business development and social cohesion. Alberto Álvarez, councillor for Economic Development and Employment, said sharing ideas with other organisations could help the municipality find new funding opportunities, encourage innovation and provide better support for local companies.
In other words, there’s value in learning what works elsewhere rather than trying to solve every problem from scratch.
The assembly also dealt with the network’s own plans. Members approved the management plan and budget for 2027, and confirmed the addition of Girona Provincial Council. That brings REDEL’s membership to 47 organisations.
Another key topic was the direction of the network for 2027 to 2030. Discussions drew on recommendations from REDEL’s advisory council, with the aim of strengthening cooperation between members over the coming years.
For Adeje, the focus is on turning that shared knowledge into practical opportunities for local businesses and residents, particularly when it comes to employment and economic development.
