If you’re interested in the history of La Laguna, there’s a rather nice little exhibition taking place at the Casa de Ossuna this month.
The Instituto de Estudios Canarios is marking the September celebrations in honour of the Santísimo Cristo de La Laguna with a bibliographic exhibition focusing on old festival programmes from its collection.
El Cristo de La Laguna: festival programmes
The exhibition, titled El Cristo de La Laguna: programas de fiestas, looks at the programmes published over the years for the city’s traditional September celebrations.
It’s a small but interesting way of looking back at how the fiestas have evolved, while also giving visitors a chance to see material preserved in the Instituto de Estudios Canarios’ library.
The exhibition is being held in the inner courtyard of the Casa de Ossuna and is free to visit.
It opened on Thursday, 10 September and will remain open until Friday, 2 October 2026.
Opening hours are Monday to Friday from 10:00 to 14:30, with additional afternoon opening when there is a cultural activity taking place at the Instituto de Estudios Canarios.
Where to find it
The Casa de Ossuna is in La Laguna, making this an easy one to combine with a wander around the historic centre.
Once the exhibition finishes, the programmes can still be consulted in the library’s reading room, Monday to Friday from 09:00 to 15:00.
The books and programmes are catalogued in BICA, the Canary Islands Library Network, where the Instituto de Estudios Canarios is listed as a specialist library.
It’s not the biggest exhibition you’ll find in Tenerife, but if you like local history, old photographs, documents and the slightly obsessive business of finding out how things used to be, it’s worth a look.
