Tenerife Cheesecake Takes Third Place in Spain’s National Championship

Tenerife has another reason to feel rather pleased with its food scene. A cheesecake made in Santa Cruz has just been named the third best in Spain, beating most of the competition at the first Spanish Cheesecake Championship 2026.

The winning creation, called Origen, comes from Ghio’s Burger Crafters in Santa Cruz de Tenerife. It also took the top prize for the Best Cheesecake in the Canary Islands, making it a pretty good week for the team behind it.

The national final took place in Madrid on Tuesday 3 November, with 15 establishments from around Spain competing for the title. The judges tasted the entries blind, so nobody knew which business had made each cheesecake.

Not a bad way to settle an argument about whose cheesecake is best.

The three best cheesecakes in the Canary Islands

Ghio’s Burger Crafters took the regional title, but there were two other Canary Islands businesses recognised in the competition.

The results were:

  1. Best Cheesecake in the Canary Islands: Ghio’s Burger Crafters, Santa Cruz de Tenerife, with Origen.
  2. Second Best Cheesecake: La Cheesecakería, Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, with Majada.
  3. Third Best Cheesecake: Tentados, with its Cheesecake Clásica.

So Tenerife takes the top spot in the regional rankings, while Gran Canaria also features among the winners.

Who won the national title?

The overall winner was Muu Cheesecakes from Gijón, Asturias, with its Tres quesos creation.

Second place went to Nola Gras from Zaragoza, with Ghio’s Burger Crafters completing the national podium in third.

There were two Canary Islands businesses among the 15 national finalists: Ghio’s Burger Crafters and La Cheesecakería.

It’s a cracking result for the islands, and another reminder that good food in Tenerife isn’t just about the traditional dishes and the local wine. Sometimes, apparently, it’s about knowing how to make a very good cheesecake.
