Granadilla invests over €380,000 in new lighting for four football grounds

Four municipal football grounds in Granadilla de Abona are set to get a lighting upgrade, with the town council approving an investment of €380,471.20.

The work will cover the football pitches in El Médano, Granadilla, San Isidro and Charco del Pino, replacing the existing lighting systems with modern, high-performance LED floodlights.

The investment has been approved through a budget adjustment and is being driven by the council’s Economy and Finance department, headed by Rubén García Casañas.

Better visibility and lower energy consumption

The project follows concerns about the condition of the existing lighting. According to the technical report, some areas of the pitches currently have insufficient illumination, making it harder for players to see properly and potentially affecting safety.

The new LED lighting is intended to provide more consistent visibility across the playing surfaces, improving conditions for local football clubs, football schools and everyone using the facilities.

This should be particularly useful for evening training sessions and sporting activities that take place after dark.

There is also an energy-saving benefit. LED technology is more efficient than the existing systems and should help reduce the environmental impact of running the municipal sports facilities.

The council says the project has three main aims: improving lighting quality, making the pitches safer and more comfortable to use, and bringing the facilities up to date with more energy-efficient technology.

A welcome improvement for the local football community, particularly for those spending a fair bit of time on the pitch once the sun goes down.
