Santa Cruz library announces 13 literary events for November, including tribute to Juan Cruz

There’s plenty coming up for book lovers in Santa Cruz this November. The Librería del Cabildo has announced 13 events, bringing together writers, poets and readers for book launches, poetry sessions, a reading club and a literary walking tour.

One of the highlights will be a tribute to journalist and writer Juan Cruz, who will attend the event on Monday 9 November. He will also feature in the bookshop’s monthly window display.

The programme starts on Tuesday 3 November at 6pm, with the presentation of Corredera. Drama de doce cuadros by Miguel Ángel Martínez.

The following day, the reading club meets at 6.30pm to discuss Las brujas de la isla del viento by Elsa López, with Antonio López Ortega leading the session.

Poetry takes centre stage

There are four sessions of the popular Café literario: La hora del rapsoda during the month.

The first takes place on Thursday 5 November at 6.30pm, with Puri Gutiérrez and a session entitled Respirar poesía.

Tomás Redondo Velo takes part on 12 November, followed by Víctor Yanes on Friday 20 November. The final session is on Thursday 26 November, dedicated to Ángel Sánchez, with writer and Canarian Academy of Language member Cecilia Domínguez Luis also taking part.

Book presentations continue on Tuesday 10 November with Gomer@s. Apuntes biográficos de la isla de La Gomera by Roberto Padrón.

On Tuesday 17 November, Leticia Delgado presents Jamás nos dejaríamos solas, joined by María del Mar Rodríguez and Inma Luna.

There will also be a talk linked to the University of La Laguna on Thursday 19 November at 6.30pm.

Literary walk sells out

One event that has already proved popular is the second literary walking tour of La Tuerta, taking place on Saturday 21 November from 10am, with María del Mar Rodríguez.

All places have already been taken. However, the bookshop says it plans to organise further editions to meet demand.

The final week of November brings two more book presentations. Juan Carlos Domínguez presents Gesta on Tuesday 24 November at 6.30pm, followed by Efigenia. La investigación by Ricardo Guerra on Wednesday 25 November, also at 6.30pm. Guerra is a member of Colectivo 21, and the event is being organised in connection with the Asociación Cultural Cabo Llanos.

The Librería del Cabildo is at Avenida Islas Canarias, 4, Santa Cruz de Tenerife. It’s a good opportunity to discover some new Canarian writing, meet local authors and spend a little time with books rather than staring at a screen.
