Getting to the swimming pool should be easier for residents of Buenavista del Norte, with the Cabildo de Tenerife handing over a 26-seat minibus to the local council.
The vehicle, previously part of the TITSA bus fleet, will be used for a new municipal transport service linking the town centre with the swimming pool and sports facilities, around three kilometres away.
The council had requested help with transport to the facilities and will now be responsible for organising the service and deciding how it operates.
Cabildo president Rosa Dávila said good public facilities are only part of the picture. People also need to be able to reach them easily, particularly if they don’t have their own transport.
Even a three-kilometre journey can be a real obstacle for older residents, children and young people without access to a car or another convenient way of getting there.
The municipal swimming pool hosts a range of sporting and fitness activities, making it a regular destination for people looking to exercise and enjoy healthier leisure time.
Buenavista mayor Eva García welcomed the handover, saying the minibus would make it easier for residents of different ages to attend activities at the facilities. She also thanked the Cabildo for its support, highlighting the value of cooperation between local and island authorities.
A second life for a TITSA vehicle
The minibus is an Iveco A65C17, previously identified as vehicle 5530 in the TITSA fleet. It can carry 26 passengers plus the driver.
Cabildo Mobility councillor Eulalia García explained that the vehicle had completed its service with TITSA and had been fully depreciated, allowing it to be put to use by the municipality.
The bus will now be available to the local council, which will determine the operating arrangements for the new service.
It’s a practical example of giving an existing vehicle a useful second life while helping residents get to local sports facilities. The next step is for the council to organise the service and make it available to the people who need it.
