Pinolere Craft Fair Returns with Nearly 200 Artisans and a Celebration of Wood

The Pinolere Craft Fair is back for its 41st edition, and this year there will be plenty of wood involved. The traditional kind, thankfully.

From 4 to 6 September, the Etnographic Park of Pinolere in La Orotava will welcome nearly 200 artisans, with 164 stalls selling everything from traditional crafts to local food and handmade products.

Three days of crafts, food and Canarian traditions

The fair will run from 10am to 8pm each day, with around 40 of the stalls dedicated to food.

Alongside the usual collection of handmade goods, visitors can explore exhibitions, watch demonstrations, take part in workshops and enjoy live music.

The theme for this year’s fair is woodcraft, with several exhibitions looking at its importance in Canarian culture, including traditional handmade furniture.

There will also be live demonstrations showing how wooden cheese and meat boards are made.

A tribute to Tenerife’s carpenters

Saturday will be dedicated to traditional carpentry and the people who have kept the trade alive.

Fourteen artisans from La Orotava, Icod de los Vinos and La Victoria de Acentejo will be recognised during the event.

There will also be a performance by the Carpentry Band, as well as a cultural exchange between Pinolere’s Parranda Chaboco and Ibiza’s Colla Sa Bodega.

A book by Domingo Machado Benítez, marking the association’s 40-year history, will also be presented.

Awards, wine and the Feast of the Tables

The fair opens with the presentation of the Cho Feriantes de Honor 2026 awards, recognising Manuel Domínguez González, the Liceo de Taoro and Transportes Paluper.

The 23rd Villa de La Orotava Artisan and Heritage Award will go to the San José Celebration Association and its music band, which was formed by local carpenters in 1988.

Sunday will turn the spotlight on Icod de los Vinos and its unusual Feast of the Tables, with visitors also able to sample local wines.

The closing ceremony will include live music and a specially written song celebrating Pinolere.

Getting there

A free shuttle bus will run every hour from Avenida Sor Soledad Cobián throughout the fair.

Advance tickets cost €2.50 and are available from Tasca Orotava. Buying in advance also enters you into a prize draw.

It’s quite a turnaround for an event that, according to the organisers, some artisans initially didn’t want to attend because Pinolere was considered too remote.

Forty years later, nearly 200 artisans from across the Canary Islands are heading there.

Not bad for a fair in the middle of the hills.
