Char Fuego y Brasas in La Caleta de Adeje takes the award for Best Wine List in the Canary Islands, while Haydée by Víctor Suárez wins for Best Design and Presentation
Tenerife has once again made a strong showing in the Canary Islands’ food and wine scene, with two restaurants in the south of the island taking the main awards at the 23rd Canary Islands Regional Wine List Competition.
Char Fuego y Brasas, located at the Baobab Suites Hotel in La Caleta de Adeje, won the award for Best Wine List in the Canary Islands.
Meanwhile, Haydée by Víctor Suárez, at the Hotel Gran Tacande in Costa Adeje, picked up the award for Best Design and Presentation.
The competition is organised by the DOP Islas Canarias – Canary Wine, in collaboration with the DOP Ycoden Daute Isora, and aims to recognise restaurants that do more than simply offer wine. The idea is to highlight how effectively establishments showcase the range and quality of wines produced across the Islands.
📅 Date: Monday, 10 August 2026
📍 Area: Adeje, Tenerife
🏆 Event: 23rd Canary Islands Regional Wine List Competition
Char Fuego y Brasas takes the top prize
The biggest award of the competition went to Char Fuego y Brasas, based at the Baobab Suites Hotel in La Caleta de Adeje.
The jury highlighted the quality of its wine cellar, its connection with the local territory and the way the restaurant has built its wine offering around those elements.
The judging panel was chaired by sommelier Javier Gila, a five-time Spanish champion, and assessed entries from 14 establishments from Tenerife and Lanzarote.
Haydée recognised for its wine list design
The second major award also stayed in Adeje.
Haydée by Víctor Suárez, located at the Hotel Gran Tacande, received the prize for Best Design and Presentation.
The judges praised the editorial approach of the wine list and the way its visual design incorporates references to the volcanic landscape and Atlantic surroundings of the Canary Islands.
It means two restaurants in Adeje took the two headline awards in a competition that also attracted restaurants, wine shops and gastronomic establishments from Arona, Santa Cruz de Tenerife, Puerto de la Cruz, Garachico, La Matanza and several municipalities in Lanzarote.
Recognising Canary Islands wine
The competition is designed to encourage restaurants to give greater prominence to wines produced in the Islands and help consumers discover the considerable variety available locally.
That is particularly relevant in Tenerife, where restaurants increasingly use their wine lists to connect diners with the island’s different wine-producing areas and grape varieties.
Iván Monreal named Canary Wine Ambassador 2026
The awards ceremony also saw Iván Monreal Herrera named Canary Wine Ambassador 2026.
The Gran Canaria sommelier has more than 25 years of experience in high-end European restaurants and has received recognition in several national competitions.
He takes over from British wine expert Tim Atkin, who sent a video message to the ceremony.
Following the award, Monreal gave a masterclass looking at wine list creation and the strategic role these lists can play within the restaurant industry.
The ceremony brought together representatives from the Canary Islands’ wine appellations and agricultural sector before finishing with a cocktail featuring wines from DOP Islas Canarias – Canary Wine and DOP Ycoden Daute Isora.
For Tenerife, having Char Fuego y Brasas and Haydée by Víctor Suárez take the two main awards is another welcome reminder that the island’s food scene is about considerably more than the plate.
